Finish 2021 Strong

December begins today, and the light at the end of the yearlong tunnel is in sight. December is always a fun month filled with family, festivities, and fun. It’s usually a celebration of the hard work we’ve done over the past year and an opportunity to look towards the future.

While celebrating the fruits of your labor is important, you can’t just celebrate for an entire month. We still have work to do.

You can’t cross the finish line when there’s still track ahead of you. Put your head down, dig deep, and power through the end of this year. Here’s how:

Set a goal for workouts this month

It’s always very tempting to phone-in on workouts for the month of the year. The weeks are often busier than usual, and it is tough to find the time to exercise. Don’t fall into that trap! You can and should still make time to exercise this month.

This year, have a plan. Set a goal for workouts for the month. There are four-and-a-half weeks in December. Aim for 15-20 workouts for the month. If you know you’re going to be busy one week, get the workouts done early in the month.

Stay strong on your diet (until the good stuff comes)

The end of the year is a minefield of excuses to indulge in delicious foods. Here’s some good news though: you should indulge in delicious foods with family and friends. Food is a wonderful part of life, and it can be – and should be – enjoyed.

The key here is to enjoy responsibly. You shouldn’t be eating lots of indulgent food every day for the entire month. Pick and choose your moments of cheating this month. Try to minimize the impact by eating healthy for the majority of the month.

Set your goals for next year

When the calendar turns 21 into 22, be ready to hit the ground running. You have twelve new months to dominate. Get a head start by knowing exactly what you need to do to achieve your goals.

Think about all of the good things and the bad that you experienced in 2021. You are another year older and another year wiser. Think about where you are now versus where you thought you’d be last year.

Expand on the good things. Make a plan to do more of them in 2022. Learn from the bad things. Leave them in 2021. At the end of 2022, you want to look back and be happy with another year of hard work. That starts now.
