Learn to Accept Your Body

At FNS, we help people find real, sustainable results. We don’t offer quick fixes. Progress takes time.

For many people, loving their body is hard. They want immediate change and don’t want to wait that time. But in order to be healthy AND happy, you have to love your body.

Self-acceptance is key to health and happiness. Here are four ways to learn to accept your body.

Realize health isn’t just your weight

A healthy weight is important, but there are a lot more things that determine your overall health. Mental health, interpersonal relationships, and other things are important.

You add things to other people’s lives, and you make people better, which is more important than your pants size.

Which number pops up when you step on a scale is not what defines you. You are a human being with value regardless of your shape and size. The impact you leave on your family, friends, and community is what matters.

You have the power to make changes

If you’re not happy with where your physical health is, here’s some good news: you have the power to change that. You can start making changes right now, today.

You can change your diet. You can start eating in a slight calorie deficit while focusing on fresh fruits and vegetables, lean beans, healthy carbs, and good fats.

You can exercise more. You can exercise every day, even if it’s just a 30-minute walk around your neighborhood.

Accepting yourself is realizing that the power is in your hands. Knowing you have that power feels good. If you want to make changes, make changes.

Realize change doesn’t happen overnight

If you’ve decided that you want to make your body a little happier, it’s important to understand that nothing happens overnight.

Accept that things will be tough at first. There will be moments when you feel like giving up. There will be disappointments throughout the journey.

Learn to enjoy the journey instead of letting these disappointments derail your momentum. Feel the new energy you receive when you make progress towards your end goals.

Once you get there, sustain that momentum. Don’t let the change be temporary. The last thing you want is to have to start over again.

Respect yourself

You only have one body. It’s been with you your entire life, and will continue to be there for the rest of it. You should love it. It’s your closest friend and biggest ally.

Don’t beat yourself up if you feel like you’ve let things slide. We’re all human. We all go through low moments in our lives. Live in the present, not what could’ve been done in the past.

Respect your body by giving it the nourishment and exercise it needs. Listen to it when it needs recovery. Create a healthy relationship with your body that will last the rest of your life. You will not regret it.
