How to Find Time for Fitness

How to Find Time for Fitness

We all live busy lives. Every week, there are a million things we need to get done in a million different places. Finding time to get in the gym can be a nightmare.

Finding the right balance for fitness and your other responsibilities is an exercise in and of itself. So how do you do it? What are some strategies you can use to make sure you’re giving your body the movement it needs to be healthy?

Here are three tips to do just that:

1) Schedule it out
Finding time is exactly what you need to do, though. Whether it’s before work, after work, at lunch, or some other time, you have to find that time in your schedule and commit to it.

It helps if your workouts come at the same time every day, week after week. That’s how your body will get into the routine. Eventually, you’ll find yourself excited for your scheduled workout time.

Once you build time for it in your schedule, you’ll be much more likely to actually do it. Commit to yourself. Your time is valuable, so make it count.

2) Don’t commit to too much (at first)
If you’re just starting out, you’re probably excited. You might want to work out six days a week for two hours every day. But how sustainable is that?

The answer is not very. If you’re already busy, finding time every single day to get a long workout in is likely not a great option.

Instead, find two or three times a week to get used to the flow and time it takes for you to get a good workout. On the other days, try light exercise such as a walk. Once you’re accustomed to the routine, add another day.

3) Priorities are okay!
Unless you are a professional athlete whose livelihood depends on their body, fitness probably isn’t at the top of your totem pole.

That’s okay! Things like family, work, and whatever else comes up may eventually cut into your gym time. You don’t have to beat yourself up about missing a scheduled workout here and there, so long as you don’t make it a habit.

If you can (and want to) find ways to do small amounts of exercise. Something as simple as a walk around the block is a great way to get your heart moving and your muscles working.

We’re all human and sometimes life happens. If other things get in the way of working out, take care of them and get back in the gym whenever you can. Living happy and healthy, is a lifestyle change.
