No one likes change. It makes us uncomfortable. Puts us in a bind. But does it going to change the fact that it’s inevitable? NO!
The sooner we accept it, the easier it gets for us to get used to it.
A change could be anything – from changing a job, getting married, switching to a new city and so on. Every day, something changes in our life. We need to be ready, and we need to be more accepting and flexible.
It might shock you how new opportunities to grow and better yourself arise when you accept and embrace change. It can take time and patience to learn the quality of being more open to change, but you’ll get there with some work.
Here are some simple and practical strategies to help you embrace the process of change:
1. Leave Past Behind & Accept the Now – When things change, we are bound to fall back to how life was before the change for two reasons – 1. It’s comfortable, and 2. It’s familiar. You need to be strong and not let these feelings overpower your current situation. Leaning back to the past and doing what you used to do or are familiar with is a trap. Keep reminding yourself about the exciting opportunities that might be on the other side of change.
2. Be OK with Not Being OK – Feeling scared, nervous or tense is OK. You’ve just stepped out of your comfort zone. It will take some time to be OK with it. Give yourself that time. Don’t be harsh on yourself – be kind.
Let’s say you had a gym buddy, and you both were doing great. But, suddenly, he had to back out. Now, you have to do it all by yourself, all alone. You have to get to the gym by yourself, push your limits till you get there and keep motivating yourself when things look shaky. But, in such a scenario, do not hesitate to ask for help. Reach out to your gym trainer and talk to him about what you’re going through.
You don’t have to do it all alone all the time, there are people willing to help you. Give them a chance.
3. Visit Your Safe Space – Change in one aspect of your life can impact other parts of your life. But, still, there will always remain a corner where you find comfort. You are already brave by trying to deal with changes around you – give yourself a break. Go where you still find peace, gather courage and then get back to the new with a fresh perspective and positive attitude.
4. Look at the Brighter Side – There must be something exciting about the change. Some ray of positivity – find that. Make a list of things you are looking forward to, let them motivate you and keep going. It’s not all bad – believe it and you’ll see it.
5. Reconnect with your 2. O Version – We know things are not the way you had planned. But is it so bad? Take a step back and use it as an opportunity to find the new you. Withdraw yourself from all the titles, responsibilities and take it as an opportunity to be more than someone’s daughter, sister, wife, etc. While you love being all of that, look out for what else you can be. Rewrite your story and own it. You think you know yourself, but maybe there’s more to you. Keep looking for it, and perhaps this is everything you ever needed.
