The End of a Tough Week! You did it. It’s Friday. You can take a breath.
Phew.
How was your week? Was it productive? Difficult? Did you get everything done?
No matter how your week went, now is the time to reflect. Take time to rest if you need to but take a few moments out of one of your off days to think.
Reflection and celebration are similar. One may sound more fun, but they are both critical for keeping yourself grounded and excited to take the next step.
Reflection and asking questions to yourself is important for self-evaluating the processes you’re using to pursue your goals. They require a certain amount of self-awareness, honestly, and humility to answer in a meaningful way.
As you go about your weekend, ask yourself a few questions and be honest with yourself. What went well for you?
What could have gone better?
What role did you take in creating new growth opportunities?
What did you do well?
This is easy. All you must do is smile at all you accomplished this week. Maybe you made it to the gym 3, 4, or 5 times this week. Perhaps you killed it at work and got way more done than you anticipated. Whatever you did, well congratulate yourself. You are a beast, and you’re just getting started!
Write down your three most significant accomplishments of this week. Then, jot down a couple of things that you think led you to those successes. Maybe you ate better, got more sleep, or drank more water. Whatever those things are, make sure you’re aware of how they make you more successful.
What didn’t go well?
Of course, you probably had some challenging moments this week. Hopefully, they weren’t too bad, and you were able to correct your course back towards your goals quickly. We’ve talked a few times in these blogs about failure as a learning tool. This is no exception.
Like the things you did well, take note of what didn’t exactly go your way and think of some potential reasons. Maybe you ate a lot of junk food or didn’t make it to the gym as many times as you wanted to. Knowing what’s tripping you up is a great way to figure out what needs to change in your routine. Also, remember that you are human at the end of the day, and none of us are perfect.
What’s your plan for next week?
After the first two questions, you ask yourself. This is the third. Having a plan is the best way to make sure you get things done. It’s a way to hold yourself accountable, ensure everything gets done, and keep yourself grounded in what still needs to happen.
Take the things that you noticed helped you and hurt you this week. Use them to frame your goals for the next week. Let’s say eating junk food prevented you from reaching your goals this week. Write down, “I will eat healthy snacks this week.” Do this for the good and the bad things you experienced this week until you feel like you have a concrete idea of what you should stop and continue doing next week.
Enjoy your weekend, and we’ll see you soon!
