te·nac·i·ty
This week, we want to focus on your tenacity. How would you define tenacity? Is it toughness? Determination? Persistence?
The answer is yes, all of the above. Tenacity is a combination of a lot of things. Take a look at these definitions from Oxford and use their lessons as you go about your week.
- the quality or fact of being able to grip something firmly; grip.
Do you have a firm grip on exactly what you want? Do you know every step that you need to take to reach that goal? If so, that is tenacity. If not, how can you grasp what your goals are? You have to understand who you are, what you want, and how you’re going to get there.
Having a plan is half of the battle. Figure out every step you need to take before you take the first one. That is having a grip on what you need to do. That is tenacity. Take hold of the things you need to achieve and go out and get them this week.
- the quality or fact of being very determined; determination.
On top of being able to keep a firm grip on your goals, you have to be determined to achieve them. Without determination, you’ll let go of those goals because, while you might want to get to them, you don’t feel like you need to get to them.
In order to be determined, you must know why you want these things. If losing weight is your goal, why is that? Do you want to be energetic with your kids? Do you want to run a marathon? Maybe you simply want to look better. Whatever it is, you have to know your why if you want to stay determined
- the quality or fact of continuing to exist; persistence.
Persistence and determination, while similar, are not the same. Determination is a state of mind, of being determined. Persistence is the refusal to give in. It’s building something piece by piece, no matter how slowly it’s going or what outside forces are telling you to stop.
This week, be persistent. Don’t give in to those outside forces. Nothing can hold you back if you don’t let it. Keep a positive attitude, no matter what happens. When you have a low moment, remember that grip you have on your dreams. Remember how determined you are to achieve them. Then put your head down and get back to work
As you can see, there are a lot of different definitions of tenacity. Each one of them has different lessons that you can apply to your daily life to become more tenacious. You know what you want. You are determined to get it. You are persistent in the face of adversity. You are TENACIOUS.
