“Challenge yourself; it’s the only path which leads to growth.” – Morgan Freeman
It’s simple: when you’re stretched to your limits, when you don’t know if you can keep going, you’re growing. You’re getting better. That’s all there is to it.
It can be hard to constantly keep challenging yourself sometimes. Sometimes you’ll want to take the easy way out. But easy is boring. Easy never got anybody anywhere.
Going above and beyond where you’ve ever been takes courage. Stretching your mind takes determination. Reaching your goals takes both. Changing your mind takes humility. Finding new things takes curiosity.
Doing it is incredibly difficult, so a celebration is in order when you grow as a person by challenging yourself. Here are a few moments when you should take a step back and celebrate.
Celebrate stretching beyond what you thought was possible
Going beyond what you previously thought were your limits is worth celebrating. That takes courage, toughness, and resolve. Pat yourself on the back when you do it. You deserve it. You are strong, flexible, tough, and you’re just getting started. There’s so much left for you to do.
Not everyone has the toughness required to challenge themselves, but you do. You’re one of the tough ones. Know that and continue to live up to it. Get up every day to challenge yourself harder than you did the day before. Try to get a little bit better every single day.
Celebrate changing your mind
In today’s day and age, seeing someone admit they were wrong about something is rare. Changing your mind is not popular, even though it’s a part of maturing as a person. Resist those urges to lash out when your mindset is challenged. It’s good for you in the long run.
Even when you think you have a firm opinion, remain open to new information. You never know what you’re going to learn when your ears are open. Ask questions, avoid getting hostile, and, above all else, remain curious. Sometimes we forget that others may have better information than we do.
Celebrate finding something new
Make sure you recognize when you do something you’ve never done before. Doing new things can sometimes be intimidating due to our natural fear of discomfort. Enjoy the new! Life is all about new experiences, new people, and new adventures. Celebrate them and then go out and find more new things to try!
Become the person who isn’t afraid to try anything. Trying something new whenever it is presented to you will open your mind to a world of opportunities you would have never known existed. Sure, you’ll find plenty of things you don’t like, but you’ll likely find more that you do like.
