Practice Discipline This Week

Mid-December is a difficult time for productivity. Many of us are probably looking forward to the holidays that are coming in the next few weeks.

Look at this week like it’s any other week. You have seven days to get work done. Get it done. Here are a few tips to practice discipline this week:

Set a lofty goal for the week

What are your goals for the rest of the year? The year is not done yet, so you should have something in mind that you want to get done. Ask yourself what that is.

You may think you don’t have enough time to get it done before the new year, but you should give it your best shot. Even if you don’t quite get there, you’ll be able to accomplish it eventually. The sooner you start, the sooner you achieve it.

This week, set a goal you aren’t sure you’ll be able to reach. Maybe it’s working out five times in a day. Maybe it’s something for your career. Whatever it is, make it a challenge. Then, do your best to get to it.

Practice confidence

When you quit something early, it isn’t just a lack of discipline. It’s a lack of respect for yourself. You’re taking away opportunities from yourself. They’re opportunities to learn more about yourself, opportunities to grow, and opportunities to achieve.

This week, be confident enough to not quit. Do not fear failure. Even if you fall short of the loft goal you set, be confident that you gave it your best effort. Confidence is like a muscle; when you train it, it will grow.

When times get tough, know you have the ability to get out of it. You are strong, you are intelligent, and you do not know the meaning of the word quit.

Start today

Tomorrow is overrated. The only better day to start was yesterday. What’re you waiting for? Once you set a lofty goal, you need all of the time you can get to accomplish that goal. Use the time you have today.

Use this mentality every week. If you have goals or resolutions for next year, why wait to start them? If you want to lose weight, become healthier, or have any other goals, what is stopping you from starting your journey to achievement today?

Waiting until tomorrow, next week, or next year is a sign of lack of discipline. Respect yourself by finding that discipline you have within you and start right now.
