5 tricks to boost your confidence

“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.” – Dale Carnegie

Confidence is one of the most important things a person can have. It is vital to success. Being confident means that other people – and yourself – view you as someone who has their stuff together.

Confidence is the product of success, self-awareness, and self-approval. Being a confident person is a skill and like any skill, it can be worked on and improved.

Whether you feel like you have some confidence or none, these tips will help you grow and become a more confident person.

Get things done

Nothing makes you more confident than a job well done. Confidence and accomplishment are close friends. The more goals you achieve, the better you will feel about yourself. You will notice when you get everything done. Soon, other people will too.

Make a list of things to do for the day. Get all of them done, then do the same thing tomorrow. Soon, you’ll have completed your weekly goals, then your monthly, yearly, and so on. Progress is a daily adventure that you have to take. Big things are built on small things.

Monitor your progress

Seeing yourself grow feels good. Knowing you are better off than when you started will make you more confident because you now know you’ve grown.

Try to quantify your goal. If you want to lose weight, set increments for how much you lose (5, 10, 15 lbs., etc.). Schedule check-ups where you weigh yourself, take a progress photo, or try for a personal record. When you see the fruits of your labor, you’ll feel fantastic about yourself.

Be around confident, positive people

No matter how confident you are, if you’re around negative people, you will feel negative. Human interaction is incredibly strong. Hearing negative things from somebody, especially someone you like, will tank your confidence.

Constructive feedback is one thing, negativity is another. Fill your personal circle with people who lift you up, not bring you down. Make them confident in themselves and don’t have to bring you down to make them feel better.

Don’t compare yourself

Every person who has ever lived has had their own unique experience in life. You are not an exception. What you have gone through is different than any person you may compare yourself to. Remember that. Their success could be the product of a million different things that you don’t know about.

Focus on yourself and your own goals. You are the person that has to do the work, no one else. Ask questions, but don’t compare yourself.

Take care of your body

It’s hard to feel confident if you aren’t happy in your own skin. Exercise and healthy eating take discipline. When you see the results of that discipline and hard work, you will feel more confident.

Being healthy will give you more energy, a feeling of self-worth, and confidence that you can handle the physical and mental challenges that come your way.
