Be Healthy for You!

Be Healthy for You!

If your goal for 2022 was “I want to be healthier,” you aren’t alone. Many people want to get healthier for a variety of reasons.

You should want to be healthier for YOU. This is your life and your body. Many people get lost because they don’t understand how to make their goals about their life.

Here are four ways to make sure you stay focused on your health.

Find your WHY

You must know WHY you want to get better and healthier. Ask yourself – and answer honestly – why aren’t you happy with yourself?

Your answer should be based on you.

Do you want more energy?

Do you want to look better?

Do you want to increase the quality of your life?

Do you want to be there for the people you love?

Everybody has a different journey. Avoid comparing yourself to others. Make changes in your life because you truly want to do it, not because somebody told you to.

Once you know your why (or whys), write them down. Keep them close and remember them when times get tough.

Talk to the people you trust

Vulnerability is a skill, not a curse. Making lifestyle changes on your own is way more difficult than doing it with help. You have to be vulnerable to ask for that help.

It can be difficult to tell people that you want to change. You worry that they might judge you or think your goals are stupid or unrealistic. However, the people in your life who truly care about you will be by your side, no matter what.

Ask those people to hold you accountable. Tell them what you need to keep you motivated. If you need tough love, ask for it. If you need a gentle hand, ask for that. These accountability buddies will be by your side when you cross the finish line.

Set a deadline

Setting a goal without a deadline and a quantifiable endpoint is hard. If your goal is too general, like “I want to be healthy,” you’re likely to get lost on the way.

Make sure your goals are realistic, and you know what you need to do to accomplish them. Losing 50 pounds in two weeks is likely not realistic in a healthy way.

Have a date in mind, then set a plan to accomplish your goal by that date.

  • Tell people about it.
  • Write it down.
  • Wake up and look at it every day.

Before you know it, you’ll be a different person.

Track your progress

If you never see the fruits of your labor, you will get discouraged—schedule check-ins to observe that what you are doing is working physically.

If your goal is weight loss, weigh yourself every two weeks. If you want to run farther or lift more, regularly challenge yourself to break your personal records.

Sometimes, you might not be happy with what’s on the scale or the stopwatch. That’s a sign to switch up your routine and continue to get better.
