When you’re living your happiest and healthiest lifestyle, your mind and body are like the perfect peanut butter and jelly. They’re in perfect harmony.
Your mind and your body have to coexist in order for you to perform at your best. When one slips behind the other, your potential is limited.
Like your muscles, your mind can be – and should be worked out. You can challenge your mind and body at the same time with proper training. Here’s how:
Challenge Yourself
You can’t build your muscles without putting them under tension. Your mind needs tension, too. When you’re working out, you need to go hard to get the most growth. As you do that, your mind is going to struggle.
You’re going to want to give up. Push through. Like your muscles, your mind will become stronger. You’ll be able to challenge yourself more. Your previous records will become a warmup.
Try new things
As humans, we are naturally curious. If we continue to do the same thing over and over again, we’ll get bored. Your mind craves new things. Oblige it. Try something new whenever the opportunity presents itself.
You will find things you don’t like, but that will challenge your mind. That’s a good thing. You’ll also find plenty of things that you do like. Trying new things is learning. Don’t be afraid to learn more; it’s essential for your growth.
Move mindfully and with confidence
Learn how to understand your body and how it moves. Try something like yoga that emphasizes focus on movements. Try meditating as well. It will help you control your breathing and focus on areas of your body that may need attention.
Carry yourself with the swagger of someone who knows how to work. Be the person who will tackle any challenge that’s put in front of them with no hesitation. You are mentally and physically capable of so many things.
Record your journey
Journaling can be an incredibly valuable resource to learn how your mind and body coexist. It’s one of the best ways to figure out what’s working for you and what isn’t. You have to understand your process in order to improve upon it.
Each night, take a moment to jot down how much you got done, your exercise, diet, and how you felt. It doesn’t have to be long or in depth, just get a rough idea of how you are responding to your daily routine.
Recover appropriately
Pushing yourself is important, but like your muscles, your mind can only take so much. If you are constantly at the brink of exhaustion and quitting with no break, eventually you will quit. Your life is a marathon, not a sprint.
Find a balance between hard work and rest. Learn to listen when your body and mind are telling you they need a break. Enjoy that rest and get ready to push yourself again soon.
