“Pride is holding your head up when everyone around you has theirs bowed. Courage is what makes you do it.” — Bryce Courtenay
Being complacent is easy. Being unhealthy is easy. Doing the right thing for you and your family every single day? Now that’s hard. That takes blood, sweat and tears. That takes courage.
Every day, you go to battle with yourself. There’s a part of you that wants to hit the snooze button on the alarm clock. That’s the part of you that wants to go for the donuts when you make your way to the kitchen an hour later. That’s the part that wants to skip exercising in favor of a nap on the couch.
Who doesn’t want more sleep? Who doesn’t want a donut? Who doesn’t want to nap? Everybody wants that! Making the right choices is oftentimes willingly subjecting yourself to less pleasurable things. You have to make those choices because you know it’s the healthy thing to do. It takes courage to do the right thing, and you do it anyway because you are courageous.
Shoot for the stars – You are the type of person to set lofty goals. You thrive under the pressure of your own expectations because you won’t let yourself get up. It takes a special kind of person to reach lofty goals, and YOU are that person.
You know those goals take time, so you break those goals into smaller ones. Then, you go out every day and take the right steps towards accomplishing those. Day in and day out, you shoot for the stars. That takes courage.
Believe in yourself – Confidence and courage go hand in hand. You can’t be courageous if you don’t have confidence. You can’t break your mold if you don’t believe that you can. You set those goals because you believe in yourself.
You have your low moments just like everyone else. But you don’t let those moments shake you off of your path to greatness. Instead, you learn from them. You use them as inspiration for the future and you don’t let the same mistake happen again. Courage is getting up, wiping that dirt off, and getting back on the road to success.
Shut the naysayers up – As you grow and get better, you’ll hear from people. Lots of them are going to be supportive and pick you up when you fall down. They’ll pat you on the back and tell you ‘good job.’ Those are the good teammates.
There are also going to be less supportive people. These people aren’t going to wish you luck when you start or tell you ‘good job’ when you finish. They’re going to tell you just to give up, they’ll tell you there’s no way you’ll reach that lofty goal.
The negative people feed on self-doubt and negativity. They’ll be hungry around you. You have nothing to give them other than a sincere smile and a ‘have a nice day.’ Nothing can stop you, and that includes them.
