There’s not much worse than being in a rut in your personal, work, or fitness life. It’s mentally and physically draining to be working hard without tasting the fruits of your labor.
Ruts happen. They are an inevitable part of life. How long they last is up to you.
If you find yourself in a rut, check out these tips to get out and get back to success:
1) Ask for help
This is the best thing you can do to make sure you don’t fall too far behind. There is no shame in asking for help. If you have the right team around you, there will be no hesitation when you ask for some guidance.
Asking for help requires you to swallow your pride and acknowledge that you don’t know everything. That is hard sometimes! However, it is absolutely necessary if you want to grow as a person.
2) Adjust your training
Routine is a great thing. It lets you put your mind on autopilot and makes progress much more measurable over time. However, when you find yourself stuck in the same routine for too long, things can get old.
If you feel yourself falling behind on something, you may need to take a look at what your routine looks like. You may need to tweak some things or even change up your strategy all together.
There is no shame in admitting something you’re doing doesn’t work. In fact, it’s the only way you’ll be able to get to the solution that will allow you to reach your goals.
3) Don’t be too hard on yourself
Over-criticizing yourself is a recipe for disaster. It makes you feel bad, and it slows your progress down. There is a fine line between being honest with yourself and being counterproductive.
When you find yourself moving slower, focus on the things you can control, not the things you can’t. Live in the solution, not the problem. Focus on what you can do to fix what’s wrong. Don’t dwell on the fact that it’s wrong.
Avoid comparing yourself to the people you see succeeding around you. They have different lives, different minds, and you have no control over their success. Instead, be happy for them and focus on what you can do to get to their level.
4) Build momentum with easy tasks
There are times in all of our lives that feel like nothing will ever go our way again. Sometimes, we feel like it’s us against the world. Sometimes, we just need a win.
You can manufacture a win for yourself. It doesn’t have to be major. If you feel like nothing is going your way, take power in making something small happen for you.
Something as simple as going for a walk can be a win. Maybe you make yourself a nice breakfast. Focus your attitude on the small things. Soon, they’ll translate into big ones.
