8 Reasons Why You are Not Losing Weight

You are choosing healthy foods, exercising, and cutting out your late-night cookie habit, but the number on the scale is not budging. Sound familiar? This diet head-scratcher happens to the best of us. Here are some reasons why you may not be losing weight.

1. Not Paying Attention to Calories
Weight loss is primarily a numbers game: calories in versus calories out. So, choose nutritious foods, but count those calories and be mindful of processed “healthy foods” that are not healthy.

2. Overcompensating for Exercise
You cannot OUTWORK a bad diet! Just because you go to the gym for an hour a day does not mean you should waste all your hard work by eating whatever you want.

3. Not Counting Condiments and Other Extras
All calories count, even the sneaky calories we do not think realize. Dressings, sauces, and condiments are full of fat and sugars, and while you might not believe that the extra 50 Cals or so matter, they do add up.

4. Dining Out
There is nothing wrong with dining out, especially if you ask questions and make smart choices. But if you find that the number on the scale will not budge, you might want to consider cutting back.

5. Eating Too-Good-to-Be-True Foods
Processed “healthy foods” are often misleading. Labels are not always accurate, especially when products do not have a label in small batches. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

6. Portion Distortion
Watch your portion sizes! Read labels carefully to ensure that you know exactly how much you should consume as a single portion. Are you pouring one serving of cereal or 3?

7. Falling Into the 0-Calorie Trap
Do not consume unlimited amounts of “zero-calorie” foods. If a product has less than 5 calories per serving, companies can round down to 0 calories per serving.

8. Drinking Your Calories
Whether you are reaching for a glass of juice or even a sports drink, you can very well go over your daily calories because of your beverage choices because of all the sugar and non-nutritional added flavorings. Grab a glass of water instead.
